A surprising little stick here that is very lightweight but solid. This yidaki has the distinction of having been chosen by Milkay Mununggurr for use in his workshops at the recent Dreaming Festival in Australia including, I am informed, his improv performances at the end!

Description

An incredible little Yirritja yidaki here made by Djarrayang Wunungmurra and painted entirely in ochre with Dhalwangu miny'tji (sacred designs). This instrument has an incredibly convoluted bore one can only describe as gnarly with quite a bit of constriction due to the narrow throat which increases the backpressure. A nice stick that really sings when it hits its groove.

Description

A lovely yidaki made and painted by Milminyina Dhamarrandji. She has crafted a wonderful big boomy instrument which plays very much like those made by her brother, famed yidaki craftsman Djalu Gurruwiwi. This instrument is elaborately decorated in fine miny'tji (cross hatching designs) and clan bands. Deep sonorous voice and lovely response. There is one thin walled section in the neck which has required a repair, hence the lower price for an instrument of such quality.

A totally natural bore from small tight mouthpiece to flared distal end makes this instrument very responsive to the slightest tongue movement. Gorgeous artwork in ochre covers this instrument and adds to its natural aesthetic.

This is a wonderful example of a natural yidaki. The bore is untouched and the perfect hollow has been discovered by Beyamarr resulting in a great and very affordable traditional instrument.

This is an incredible extreme yidaki from Datjirri. Very responsive with good backpressure due to the narrow throat which opens slightly into a 'cupped' mouthpiece. This beast of an instrument has an amazingly natural bore that has only been slightly opened up in the last 6 - 8 inches of the bell. Easy overtones allow for rapid changes between drone and toot and it's rich voice is a pleasure to witness.

A great powerful stick by a respected yidaki craftsman!
